Counselling

Even the most resilient among us can need a little help sometimes. To be really listened to and understood, to be accepted without judgment, can help us work through whatever difficulties we may be experiencing. A counselling relationship is established with the aim of offering you that opportunity. It can provide the time and space to help you explore what is going on, and identify triggers, responses, thoughts and feelings so that you feel more in control of yourself and your situation.

Sometimes, the roots of current problems lie in the past and making sense of them in the present can help us move on with our lives. Often, simply being able to think aloud in a neutral, supportive, confidential setting can provide hope when we feel we have none.

Developing a compassionate response to ourselves is also important in managing more difficult emotions; focussing on a kind voice for ourselves takes time but can be way forward in changing how we think and feel.

Sessions are 50 minutes in length. The fee is £50. Lower fees can be negotiated for those experiencing financial hardship.

If you are interested in counselling please feel free to e-mail me or phone, without any obligation to book an appointment.

Young people

There has much concern recently regarding the effect the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the mental health of young people. It has been a challenging time that has meant that some young people have experienced difficulties in managing their emotions.

Counselling can enable a young person to develop understanding about their emotions, strategies to cope and a capacity for resilience.

I have worked as a counsellor in secondary schools for over 10 years, supporting young people with difficulties such as anxiety, depression, OCD, bereavement, family difficulties and anger. Some young people prefer not to counselling within the school setting and I offer individual sessions within my private practice for young people. I can be helpful for the parent/carer to attend sessions where appropriate but the young person is always consulted about this and their preferences respected.

Supervision

I offer supervision for counsellors working with young people and adults and use various models of supervision to support the supervisee in their counselling work. Using creative methods to explore supervisory questions can also be an exciting part of discovery in supervision.

Supervision is also available to school staff with pastoral or safeguarding roles. Staff report that having the space to talk about their work is beneficial and effective, both in supporting staff through difficult and demanding roles and decision making.

Please contact me if you wish to explore the possibility of supervision sessions. Fees are £45 per hour.

Let's Talk

The first step in therapy is taking that step of making contact. Let's find a time where we can meet and talk about what's on your mind.
